Hello dear friend,

Greetings to you in Jesus name.

Today some Christians all over the world are observing the Ash Wednesday and lent, today I would like to share few things about the Ash Wednesday and lent.

What is Ash Wednesday?

Ash Wednesday is the first day of the lent. On Ash Wednesday many Catholics and other few denominations put ash on their fore head as a sign of sorry for their sins.

However, there is no mention of the word “Ash Wednesday” in the entire Bible. People in the Old Testament put ashes on themselves and wore a sackcloth as a sign of repentance and humility.

Should you observe the Ash Wednesday today?

My opinion is NO. You do not show that you are sorry to God once a year by just putting little ash on your forehead. You should repent all the days of your life, because knowing or unknowingly you probably might fall short of the standards of God.

Repentance and humbling yourself should be our lifestyle before God.

What is lent? Should we follow lent?

Lent starts from Ash Wednesday to Easter (40 days). During Lent few people fast, and other give up on their favorite food, especially food like meat, eggs, sweets, milk and milk products; and some people do not wear good cloths.

People follow lent as a representation of Jesus fasting 40 days and night.

Should you keep the lent?

My opinion is NO.

Because, Jesus fasted and prayed at the start of His ministry, not when He was about to become the atonement for the whole mankind.

There is nothing wrong in fasting, repenting, and humbling yourself before God; but this should not be only for these 40 days but whenever, and however the Lord leads you.

At Jesus’ water baptism the Holy Spirit descended on Him, and Holy Spirit led Jesus into a wilderness to fast.

Today who is leading you to fast and pray? Is it the traditions, culture, man-made practices, church rules, calendar (Date and time), or the Bible and the Holy Spirit?

There is a big difference between religious living and spirituality. Religion is the set of Do’s and Don’ts to win the approval and receive the blessings of God, but a spiritual person is thankful to God for the finished work of Jesus on the cross and does everything from a place of being fully accepted, forgiven, and blessed.

Before I conclude, I want to remind you that by food (eating certain food or not eating certain food) you cannot win God’s approval, and by fasting you cannot undo the will of God.

“I am allowed to do anything, but not everything is good for you”. You say, “I am allowed to do anything, but not everything is beneficial”. 1 Corinthians 10:23.

May the precious Spirit of God lead you and guide you into all truth in Jesus name. Amen

With much love and Prayers,

Pastor. Jeevan and Leena.
