Greetings to you in Jesus name.
Today I would like to share with you few things about discipleship, hope this will be a blessing to you to be a true and better disciple of Jesus Christ.
Who and what is a disciple?
The word disciple comes from a Greek word called “Mathetes” which mean, the one who believes in his master, follows Him wholeheartedly and one who be like Him.
If you want to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, you should believe in Him. Believe what?
- The virgin birth of Jesus Christ.
- The death of Jesus for the remission of our sins.
- The burial and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Give your life 100% to Him and make Him your only Lord and Savior of your life.
- Know and obey His teachings.
- Be like Him (Talk, think and act like Him)
The student is not greater than His Master, but the one who is fully trained will be like His teacher! Luke 6:40
As a disciple of Jesus Christ it’s His will that you grow as a disciple so that you will go and make other disciples.
Knowing your Master!
One day two disciples following Jesus, turning around Jesus asked, “What do you want?” they said, “Where are you staying?” Come, He replied and you will see. John 1:37-38.
When you follow Jesus wholeheartedly, stay with Him and see His life; you will know Him better than anyone in the world could explain it to you.
The next day, the first thing Andrew did was he found his brother Simon and tells him that “we found the Messiah”. John 1:41. Andrew knew who Jesus was by spending one day with Him! If you want to know who Jesus is, the only thing you should do is spend time with Him, and then you will testify the world of who Jesus is!
There are people who know God but always fail to keep His standards, this is equal to not to know Him.
What kind of Disciple you want be?
You relationship with your Master should be based in love and followed by obedience. You should be rooted and grounded in Him! God loves all of us same and unconditionally but the one who love Him back will experience the love of His Master for him/her.
Jesus’ love or trust for the people who followed Him was not same. What He was to 5000 was not the same with 70, what He was to the 70 was not the same to 12, what He was to the 12 was not the same to 3, what He was to the three was not the same with 1.
Jesus and His disciples went to the garden of Gethsemane and Jesus said to His disciple “sit here while I pray”. He took Peter, James and John alone with Him and began to be deeply distressed and troubled. “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death”, stay here and keep watch. Mark 14:32-34.
Before I conclude I want to ask you a question, what kind of Disciple you want to be. A disciple whom God will say sit here or a disciple whom God will reveal His heart?
As a disciple of Jesus Christ you should love Him exclusively, and follow His footsteps, be with Him and learn from Him.
The challenge is the world cannot see Jesus but they can see the follower of Jesus, live a life in such a way that the world sees Jesus in You! The ultimate purpose of God for our life is to be like Jesus, Nothing beats this!
