Jesus’ ministry on earth was very powerful and remains so forever. Everywhere He went thousands of people gathered to listen to Him. Everywhere He went healing and revival took place and in every synagogue (church) He preached with mighty authority and miracles took place at His command.
When He walked on the streets people got healed just by touching His garment. Distance was never a barrier to His healing. He very word spoken brought the dead back to life. His touch could do wonders like cleansing the leper, restoring the sight to the blind and strengthening the lame. And wherever Jesus went the demons trembled.
What a life Jesus lived! If Jesus was in our generation today He would have been on all the news channels like BBC, CNN and on every media channel. All the Christian channels would have asked Him to give program on their Channels 24*7, because no one would have taught the Word of God like Jesus, no one would have moved in the power of God like Jesus.
How would you feel, if you were in Jesus’ place?
The word of God says, Jesus said “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father”. John 14:12
If you want to do greater things than Jesus, you have to do more than what Jesus did. Let’s dream of doing greater things than Jesus.
What did Jesus do?
There was one secret of Jesus that is ‘PRAYER’. Let’s take a look at the prayer life of Jesus. If you can do what Jesus did, you can have what Jesus had!
When did Jesus pray?
- Mark 1:35: Early in the morning.
- Mark 6:46: In the afternoon.
- Matt 14:23: In the evening.
- Luke 6:12: In the night.
I learnt this from a very good friend of mine who is also my mentor and spiritual father. He said, “A born again believer should not have a prayer time but a life of prayer.” The problem with us is that we have specific prayer time may be something like 6 am – 7 am and from the time you have started your prayer how many times you would have had a look at your watch? Do not be bound by time.
The word of God commands us to pray continually, with all kinds of prayers. 1 Thes 5:17 & Eph 6:18. Jesus was always connected to God.
Friend it’s time to be online with God continually. Talk to Him, tell Him your weakness, tell Him what you want, share your heart with Him. Only Jesus can be your best friend because no one understands you the way He does.
Where did He pray?
- Mark 1:35: He went to the solitary place
- Luke 9:18: In private place
- Luke 5:18: In lonely place.
Today our biggest problem for prayer is ‘distraction’. We pray with our laptop on and online on Facebook, twitter, gtalk, Skype, messenger or texting msg from our handset. It is time for church to get to place where we are alone with God and away from all distractions.
How did He pray?
Heb 4:7, Luke 22:40-45,
- With loud cries,
- With tears,
- With reverent submission.
- Knelt down and prayed
- In Anguish
- More earnestly
- Seeking Father’s will
Some of us need to get broken before God and out of that brokenness come tears and loud cries. When was the last time you were broken before God? We have to ask God to give us tears, only when you shed your tears before God your burdens are lifted. Jesus was broken when He saw the people, He always moved with compassion and that brokenness is the key for miracles.
Out of submission we should kneel down and fall to the ground on our face before God. We all should come to a point where we realize that we can do nothing on our own and know that God can do everything for us. Come before Him by surrendering 100% all of you to Him. Jesus being the Son of God did not do anything on His own but He was led by the Holy Spirit all through His days.
Know the will of God for your life and always be willing to do His will. It’s time that we should stop living for our self-centered ambition and live only for the glory of Jesus. Be in a place where God has put you, do not run because things are not going in your way. Jesus was also in the same situation, He prayed, “Father if it is your will please take this cup away from me but not my will but yours be done”(Matt 26: 39, 42, 44)
Whom should we pray for?
Jn 17: 1-26:
- Verses 1-5: He prayed for Himself
- Verses 6-19: He prayed for His disciples
- Verses 20-26: He prayed for the whole world
Do not only pray for our family, our ministry, our needs and our church. Look at the people whom God has brought in your life. Jesus said, ‘pray for those who persecute you’. If you want to pray for the person who persecutes you then why not pray for your fellow believer, co-worker, your pastor, all men and women of God and all the people who are in need of your prayers.
Dear friend, I’m not writing this blog because I’m perfect or I’m doing well. Actually I have been struggling to be consistent in my prayer life. There has been a time when I did not read bible or bowed my knees before God but I want to discipline myself and I want to come back to him because I know that only ‘prayer’ works. You might also be struggling in the same and let me tell you that its never too late to mend your life. Now is the time and today is the day.
Have a life of Prayer,
Love n Blessing
