Hello Dear Friend,
One of the most asked question and the prayer request given to the pastors or ministers is, what should I do to grow spiritually? Or please pray for me to grow spiritually.
Before I tell you what to do to grow spiritually, I want you to know that it’s a process, it doesn’t grow overnight. Example: if you want to build muscles, you don’t get them overnight, you have to do things that helps you grow physically, and likewise there are things you should do to grow spiritually.
Now, what are the things that helps you grow spiritually?
- Passionate Desire:
If you want to grow stronger in the Lord, you should first have a desire to grow. Wanting to grow is different and passionately desiring is different.
Everyone wants to have a muscular and flat belly but only few will achieve it and those few are the one who not just want to but will passionately desire.
God has created us to be fruitful, and fruitfulness is growth.
Jesus said, I am a vine and you are a branches, as long as are connected to Him, we will surely bring forth fruit. John 15:5
- Discipline yourself to spend time with the Lord:
Desiring doesn’t benefit our growth, if we don’t put those desire into action.
I haven’t come across a person who built his body and haven’t disciplined it. Disciplining takes time and energy.
You cannot discipline unless you are devoted to it. There are few things that you should say no to in order to get the kind of body you want.
Paul said, I beat my body and make it my slave. 1 Cor 9:27.
The greatest enemy that stops you from being fruitful is your body, overcome your body and be fully yielded to the Spirit of God who lives in you, then you are on your way to bring forth more fruits.
- Imitate Jesus:
You will always imitate a person like whom you want to be. I grew up seeing my friends having a picture of a body builders in their bed rooms to get inspiration and encouragement to build the body like a person on their wall.
Now, if you want to grow spiritually, we should be inspired by someone, who is your inspiration?
Having men and women of God/ mentors/ spiritual parents/ Bible heroes is great but Jesus should be our real and all time hero. Jesus should be our inspiration and we are His disciples.
The great apostle Paul said, I imitate Christ. 1 cor 11:1 and He also encourages the church to imitate God (Jesus) Eph 5:1
- Live like Jesus lived:
The last and most important thing is that you live your life like Jesus lived, because you are His imitator. Live your life in a way thinking what would Jesus do if He was in your place and go ahead and do so!
Jesus lived a life that was pleasing to God – The Father and being a blessing to the people around Him.
I encourage you to go ahead and live your life that is pleasing to God and glorifying Him and that’s being a blessing to everyone who comes in contact with you.
As you are reading this post I pray that you will grow spiritually resembling Jesus in everything that you do, say and think.
God Bless You
In His Service,
