Hello dear friend,

Greetings to you in Jesus name.

Hope you are doing well in the grace and mercies of God, I pray may God continue to protect you and provide you all your needs according to His riches in glory in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Sabbath is considered as one of the holy days by the Jews, God gave commandment to Moses on the Mount Sinai and one of the commandment is to keep the Sabbath.

But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God, in it you shall do no work; you, nor your sons, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. Exodus 20:10 NKJV

Why seventh day? I assume one of the reason could be that God rested from all His work of creation on the seventh day in the book of Genesis.

We too might be tired because of the busy schedule throughout the week with our work, jobs, and responsibilities; yet we should observe the Sabbath by resting on that day from all the efforts, by being in the presence of God (because only in His Presence we have true rest) and on that day you can also relax by doing things that helps you to relax well and prepare yourself for the next day and week ahead.

Some people work so hard throughout the week, and on Sabbath also they burden themselves by trying to meet their religious obligation to God by doing everything which they are not called to do. Dear friend, do not “burn yourself out” in the name of God and religion.

Am I telling you not to serve God and be a blessing to the church or ministry you are part off, definitely not! You should use your God given gifts, talents, abilities and calling to serve God and people; but you should be wise in balancing your life to work and rest at the same time.

The Pharisees would keep the law religiously, and they would look down on the people who fail to keep the Sabbath. Some people were burdened by the 6 days’ work in a week, and even on the Sabbath they were also burdened to keep the Sabbath. Religion can be a bondage!

At one instance when Jesus and His disciples were going through a grain field, and His disciples began to pick some heads of grains, the Pharisees who saw this asked Jesus why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath. Jesus said, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for Sabbath, so then the Son of Man is the Lord even on the Sabbath. Mark 2:26-27

I want to remind you another important thing that Jesus said, don’t think that I came to abolish the law of the prophets. I did not come to abolish it, but to fulfil. Matthew 5:17

If you look at the life of Jesus Christ our Lord, not only He fulfil the law but also raised its bars to a greater standard. For example; in the OT law if someone commits adultery it’s a sin but in NT Jesus said if you look at a women lustfully you have already committed adultery with her in your heart.

Jesus is the Lord over the Sabbath. Have you been to a birthday party? Imagine that you are celebrating a birthday party without the birthday boy/girl, it’s not complete isn’t it?

Many people who celebrate the Sabbath today, sadly celebrate without the Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear friend, the day you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, He comes and lives in you through His Spirit in your innermost being, to lead you, teach you, and to transform you to be a better Christian.

Worship the Lord on your Sabbath and on every other day also, He deserves your undivided wholehearted worship. Let’s not only stick to a day, but give Him every moment of your life, when you give your life to God He will give it back to you with a greater measure for the glory of God in Jesus name.

I pray, may God help you to worship Him on Sabbath and on every day of your life, in Jesus name. Amen

With much love and prayers,
