What is eternal life, and when will we receive it?
Eternal life is the gift, you cannot earn it but God gives us as we make Jesus as the Lord and Saviour of our life.
This eternal life starts the moment you welcome Jesus in your life as the Lord and King of your life and everything you have in this life, and continue to keep Him your Lord forever. If you fail to accept Jesus as your Lord and King then you would spend your eternity without Jesus, the Prince of life.
Have you ever thought about eternal life?
It is possible that we could be so caught up with the routine of the life, and do not have time to think, work, and invest towards eternity.
No matter how busy we are or tight our schedule is we should take time to think and work to live our eternal life with the Lord, enjoying His blessings and glory.
The bible says, a rich young man came to Jesus and asked Him, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Mark 10:17-22
Here are the important thing we learn from the above passage;
- You can’t buy eternal life with money:
With money you can buy anything in this world, but you cannot buy God and the gifts that comes from Him.
For example: You cannot buy salvation, anointing, blessings, and eternal life.
2. This man was young, and yet thought about eternal things:
When you talk about spiritual things, people often make fun of you and mock you. And when it is among the young people it will be on a different level. Even if someone is interested on the spiritual things, mostly people would like to keep their pursuit of God secret.
This man was young and rich, yet came to Jesus when He was surrounded with people and asked about eternal life. He was unashamed about spiritual things.
The bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:1, in your youth remember your Creator.
Seek God and Spiritual things when you are strong, when you are active, when you are at the best of your strength, and when you are able to make an influence. Give your best life to God.
3. Inquired Jesus about eternal life:
This man came to Jesus and asked Him about eternal life. There are people in the world who are keen on the things of God, but they want to get information and benefits from wrong source, this people came to a best person ever.
If you want to have a right information about God and the things of God, you should inquire God or godly people.
4. Jesus always have an answer:
Jesus told the young man to follow the commandments.
It is easy to put our faith in God, and it is also easy to say that we love Him and are committed to Him, but to obey Him and to do everything that He has commanded us to do is the real challenge.
Jesus always have a solution to every situation you can ever be, and an answer to every question, but sometime it might not be the one you like and expect. But if you can accept His answer it will change your life forever.
5. Disciples inherit eternal life:
When the man replied that he had obeyed all the commandments from his childhood, Jesus told him “you lack one thing, go sell your possessions and give to the poor”. This young man went back disappointed because he had great wealth.
As long as we love this world and everything it, experiencing eternal life can be little challenging.
This man came to Jesus to know how to inherit eternal life, but when he got the answer, he was disappointed and went back home sadly.
I pray, may God give you grace to desire for the spiritual and eternal things, and more grace to love the Lord, and obey Him. As you seek Him, may you be satisfied and be blessed in Him to be a true disciple of Jesus, in His precious name. Amen
