Hello dear friend,

Greeting to you in Jesus name, I hope you are doing well in the grace and mercies of God. I pray, may God continue to keep you strong and healthy, and provide all your needs according to His glorious riches in Jesus name. Amen

In our last post we have understood that Jesus the Son of God came to earth, lived a righteous life, and faced a terrible death in our place for our sins so that we might be free from sin and death and enjoy the benefits of the cross and the blood of Jesus.

Today we will learn about the burial of our Lord. Open your hearts to be educated and to be enlightened by the word of God. The bible says, Joseph of Arimathea came, a prominent member of the council, who himself was waiting for the Kingdom of God, and he gathered up courage and went in before Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead and ascertaining this from the centurion he granted the body to Joseph.

Joseph brought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out in the rock and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. Mark 15:43-46

Who was Joseph of Arimathea?

– He was a prominent member of the council (local authority)

– He was a very rich and wealthy man

– He was waiting for the Kingdom of God

– He was a disciple of Lord Jesus Christ. (John 19:38)

– He wrapped Jesus in a linen cloth, according to the Jewish custom.

– He placed Jesus in a tomb cut of one rock and placed Jesus in it.

Why was Jesus wrapped in linen?

Linen was a sign of purity and righteousness.

In the Old Testament the priests used to wear cloths made of linen, symbolizes Jesus is the royal High priest.

Right now, our Lord Jesus is sitting at the right hand of the Father in glory and performing the duty of the high priest praying and interceding for us.

Dear friend, no matter what your situation is, your Lord is interceding for you day and night; and since He is praying for you, you cannot miss the blessings God has for you. Trust Him and hold on to Him.

Why was Jesus kept in an unused tomb?

People who used to have personal tombs are usually rich and respected. And since Jesus was born from an unused womb therefore, He was placed in an unused tomb.

This shows that Jesus was a very highly respected person, and His life was pure (sinless) from His birth to death.

Why was Jesus laid in another man’s tomb?

1. Jesus deserves a rightful place:

Only rich people could afford own tomb, when Jesus died, Joseph understood that Jesus was not an ordinary person, therefore God used Joseph to honour Jesus in the best he could.

2. It shows Jesus’ humility:

Jesus said, foxes have holes, birds have nests, but the Son of man do not have place to lay His head.

Jesus the Creator of the whole universe, the Lord of heavens and the earth, humbled Himself to nothing, therefore God exalted Jesus and gave Him the name above every name that every knee bows and every tongue confess that He alone is Lord.

3. It’s a sign of new beginning:

Jesus was put in the new tomb symbolizing the new things in our life begins with Him.

All the saints in the OT who died were in paradise, when Jesus died and was buried, and rose from the dead; all the saints in the paradise were taken into the glory to be with the Lord. Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection made a way for the saints to experience heavens.

I pray today, may God give you grace to enjoy all the benefits of the death, burial, and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ in every area of your life in Jesus might name. Amen

With much love and blessings,
