These days we frequently hear about a word called famine and when we hear it we feel pity on the people who are going through it. We want to be away from it. A famine is where people face scarcity, in wants, starvation and in need.

We all don’t want to hear this word called famine.

These are the areas we go through famine,

Famine of money,

Famine of understanding in your family,

Famine of peace and joy,

Famine of the things you need,

Famine in your health conditions,

Famine of godliness,

Famine in pursuing God and so on. . . . .

In Ruth 1:1 it says, in the days of Judges ruled there was famine in the land.

The judges are viewed in greater detail in the Book of Judges:

Othniel 3:7-11 a nephew of Caleb, delivered Israel from the Mesopotamians.

Ehud 3:12-30 was left-handed and killed Eglon, king of Moab.

Jephthah 11:1–12:7 was a harlot’s son who defeated the Amorites.

Gideon 6:11-8:35 led 300 Israelites to defeat the entire army of the Midianites.

Samson 13:1–16:31 delivered Israel from the Philistines. Known for his great strength.

Deborah 4:1–5:31 urged Barak to attack the mighty army of the Canaanites.

Shamgar 3:31,

Tola 10:1-2,

Jair 10:3-5,

Ibzan 12:8-10,

Elon 12:11-12, and

Abdon 12:13-15.

These are the judges as recorded in Bible. Judges were appointed by God, they are appointed to rule people and make justice between people of God but it says in the days of Judges there was a famine.

Why? Are they not smart? Are they not appointed by God? Yes they were rulers and they were capable of leading people and judge wisely, But still why there was a famine in their days?

Let’s go back to Judges last chapter and last verse (Jud 21:25) In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit meaning ‘they did not inquire God and everyone did what they wanted to do’.

We forget God because we have our self-centered ambitions and somewhere behind our head we know that we cannot please God because of them; there are people who know God. Sometimes they end up doing the same thing that these judges made, want to fulfill the self-centered dream and desires so when they sit for prayers they ask God to bless what they are doing instead they should first go into the presence of God and inquire Him, if God says yes to it then we should go and ask God to bless it.

What is a Blessing?

Blessing is you knowing the will of God and living there itself is a blessing than you ask God to bless what you are doing without inquiring God, for your life and you running to pursuing it every day.

How to avoid this famine in your life?

Things that will rescue you from famine,

  • Love God
  • Be submissive to Him
  •  Trust Him
  • Pursue Him

I pray that you will have a heart to love God and obey Him and by doing so you will overcome every kind of famine in your life, family and ministry in Jesus name. Amen
